Molluscum Contagiosum
Molluscum Contagiosum
Molluscum contagiosum is a viral skin infection that causes small, pearly or flesh-colored bumps on the skin. The bumps are painless and usually no larger than the size of a pencil eraser. It is commonly seen in children but can affect people of all ages. The virus is easily transmitted through direct contact or by sharing personal items, such as towels or clothing. The virus isn’t particularly harmful, though it can cause irritation.
At the California Dermatology Institute, our dermatology providers are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of molluscum contagiosum. We understand the physical and emotional discomfort this condition can cause, and we are committed to providing effective treatment options tailored to your needs.
Treatment for molluscum contagiosum may include topical creams, cryotherapy (freezing the bumps), or curettage (scraping the bumps). Our dermatology providers will assess the severity and location of the lesions to determine the most appropriate treatment approach.
In addition to treatment, our team will provide guidance on preventive measures to minimize the spread of the virus to other individuals and reduce the likelihood of reinfection.
If you or your child is experiencing symptoms of molluscum contagiosum, we encourage you to schedule a consultation at the California Dermatology Institute. Our dermatology providers will provide a comprehensive evaluation and develop a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve clear, healthy skin.
