Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is a dermatological procedure that involves the use of extreme cold temperatures to treat various skin conditions. It is commonly used to remove benign skin growths, such as warts, skin tags, and actinic keratosis (precancerous lesions). Cryotherapy works by freezing the targeted skin cells, which destroys them and eventually causes them to fall off.
During the procedure, liquid nitrogen or another cryogen is applied to the affected area using a specialized device. The freezing temperature causes the skin cells to freeze and die. The procedure is relatively quick and can be performed in the dermatology provider’s office.
Cryotherapy is a versatile treatment option as it is minimally invasive, requires no anesthesia, and has a relatively short recovery time. It is considered a safe and effective method for removing various skin lesions. However, it may cause temporary discomfort, redness, blistering, or mild scarring in some cases.
At the California Dermatology Institute, our experienced dermatology providers specialize in cryotherapy and utilize advanced techniques to ensure precise and effective treatment. We will assess your specific condition, provide a thorough evaluation, and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
