What is Rheumatology?
Rheumatology is a medical specialty focused on autoimmune and inflammatory diseases that cause the body’s immune system to mistakenly attack its own tissues. These conditions can lead to pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints, along with other symptoms throughout the body. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial to managing these diseases effectively.
Conditions We Treat
We offer expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of conditions, including:
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
A chronic inflammatory disorder affecting the joints, often resulting in swelling, pain, and joint deformity if left untreated. - Osteoarthritis
The most common form of arthritis, caused by the gradual wear and tear of joint cartilage. - Lupus
An autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation in various parts of the body, including joints, skin, kidneys, and other organs. - Gout
A type of arthritis caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joints, typically affecting the big toe. - Fibromyalgia
A chronic condition characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and tenderness in localized areas. - Ankylosing Spondylitis
A type of arthritis that primarily affects the spine, causing inflammation and potentially leading to chronic pain and stiffness. - Psoriatic Arthritis
An inflammatory joint condition associated with psoriasis, characterized by joint pain and stiffness.
Our Approach to Treatment
At California Dermatology Institute, we take a personalized approach to rheumatology, tailoring treatment plans to each patient’s specific needs. Our goal is to reduce pain, improve mobility, and prevent further joint damage. Treatment options may include:
- Medications to reduce inflammation and manage symptoms
