Athlete’s Foot

Athlete’s foot, also known as tinea pedis, is a common fungal infection that affects the skin on the feet. It thrives in warm, moist environments such as locker rooms, swimming pools, and shoes. Athlete’s foot can cause itching, redness, scaling, and the formation of blisters or cracks on the skin. This form of ringworm is also contagious and can be spread to toenails and hands. Athlete’s foot impacts athletes and non-athletes alike, as well as men and women of all ages and races.

At the California Dermatology Institute, we understand the discomfort and inconvenience that athlete’s foot can cause. Our dermatology providers provide comprehensive treatment options to relieve symptoms, eradicate the fungal infection, and prevent its recurrence.

Treatment for athlete’s foot may include antifungal creams, powders, or sprays, as well as oral medications for more severe or recurrent cases. Our dermatology providers will assess the extent and severity of the infection, recommend appropriate treatment, and provide guidance on hygiene practices to prevent reinfection or spreading to others.

In addition to treatment, we emphasize the importance of maintaining good foot hygiene and taking preventive measures to avoid future occurrences. This includes keeping the feet clean and dry, wearing breathable footwear, changing socks regularly, and avoiding walking barefoot in public areas.
